Apre oggi 3 maggio 2014 alle ore 17.30 la mostra “The Return”, una esposizione dei lavori di Kid Acne, poliedrico artista inglese che sarà presente in via Saluzzo 11/g alla Galo Art Gallery.
Kid Acne è un uomo rinascimentale – artista, illustratore, incisore e, a volte, MC. I suoi anni formativi sono stati passati dipingendo graffiti, facendo fanzine e distribuendo dischi punk/hip-hop autoprodotti. In questo periodo iniziò a forgiare e sviluppare il proprio inimitabile stile ingannevolmente semplice.
Alla fine degli anni ’90 il suo lavoro è stato pubblicato nel libro Scrawl , che ha documentato la convergenza dell’illustrazione contro-cultura, grafica per skateboard e graffiti, anticipando quella che ora è ampiamente riconosciuta come l’estetica ‘Street Art’.
Mentre studia Belle Arti a Sheffield, il suo lavoro guadagnò l’attenzione dei dirigenti della Warp Records che gli commissionano di illustrare la copertina del disco Rest Proof Clockwork dei Plaid nel 1999. Al volgere del millennio, il suo lavoro ha cominciato ad apparire come sfondo per i grandi night-club del Regno Unito e in riviste di stile in tutta Europa, così come le sue infinite personalizzazioni, dalla maglieria nel Yorkshire alle scatole di pizza a Parigi.
Negli ultimi anni le sue illustrazioni hanno adornato prodotti di marchi come Kenzo, Prada e Elle, mentre le sue opere si vedono in tutto il mondo, dalle affissioni, murales e mostre da Pechino a Azerbaijan – in particolare la sua prima retrospettiva completa tenuta al Museo di arte contemporanea di Sheffield, che ha attirato oltre 50.000 visitatori.
Attualmente sta lavorando su una serie di brevi animazioni per Channel 4, per il quale fornisce la voce del protagonista, Zebra Face, accompagnato da un cast di talento britannico come Roots Manuva e Jarvis Cocker.

Kid Acne is a modern day renaissance man – artist, illustrator, print-maker and sometimes, MC. His formative years were spent painting graffiti, making fanzines and releasing DIY punk/hip-hop records. During this period he began to craft and developed his own inimitable and deceptively simple style.
In the late 90’s his work was first published in the now seminal Scrawl tome, which documented the conversion of counter culture illustration, skateboard graphics and left-field graffiti, preempting what are now widely recognised as ‘Street Art’ aesthetics.
While studying Fine Art in Sheffield, his work gained the attention of Warp Records executives who commissioned him to illustrate the LP sleeve for Plaid’s Rest Proof Clockwork in 1999. At the turn of the millennium, his work began to appear as the backdrop for major UK club nights and in style magazines throughout Europe, as well as customising everything from knitwear in Yorkshire to pizza boxes in Paris.
In recent years his illustrations have adorned products for leading brands such as Kenzo, Prada and Elle, whilst his art can be seen throughout the globe, in wheat-pastes, murals and gallery shows from Beijing to Azerbaijan – most notably his first comprehensive retrospective held at Museums Sheffield, which attracted over 50,000 visitors.
He is currently working on a series of short animations for Channel 4, for which he also provides the voice of the lead character, Zebra Face and is accompanied by a cast of British talent including Roots Manuva and Jarvis Cocker.
